  • Soon after I last sent you football tips, Claudio Ranieri was sacked by Leicester City. And, what do you know? No sooner had the man they cried crocodile tears for left the building, but the Leicester players rediscovered the will to win. What an amazing coincidence! Their cynicism and hypocrisy turned my stomach, as members and non members alike can read about here.

They may well now go on to overturn the 2-1 scoreline from their first leg Champions League game against Sevilla. I . . .

  • So my hope for a Chelsea v Manchester United FA Cup final has gone down. I had waited for the most recent draw before placing a bet on that tie. Just as well. The two teams will meet in the next round and Jose Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge. That should be an interesting encounter.

Arsenal got past non league Sutton United with a 0-2 victory and now face the other non league survivors Lincoln City, on March 11th.

There are no Premier League matches until next weekend. I look, therefore, for potential midweek value in the Championship . . .

  • So Arsenal fans now want the head of Arsene Wenger on a plate. And, come May, they'll probably get their wish. The woeful capitulation against Bayern Munich in midweek appeared to prove that the manager has run out of ideas and that some of the players have downed tools.

I don't know why fans are surprised about Mesut Ozil. He also had a very good first season at Real Madrid, but faded the longer he was at that club. History has repeated itself at Arsenal. Ozil had the best goal assist record when he was at Real Madrid . . .

  • I am forever asking members to follow me on Twitter. Not because I lose any sleep over the number of followers. But because that is where I divulge any late information or tips. The tweets might be about a race meeting being called off, a tip being a non runner or - late in the day - a football bet I fancy.

Inspiration might hit days after I have sent out the football tips post. Or I might like a bet I hear from another tipster. The latter is rare (I prefer to follow my own form study), but can happen. And . . .

  • What’s it all about, Alfie?

A late bet on Alfie Mawson to score first for Swansea, alerted to everyone on Twitter.

  • Football is as fickle as I have ever known it. And that includes supporters.

Arsenal fans continue to do their utmost to remove Arsene Wenger from power. I hope I live long enough to see them regret his departure. Fans of those clubs who have changed their manager too often, too quickly, know to be careful what you wish for.

There are Arsenal fans who would love to have George Graham back in charge of proceedings. They'd rather watch boring 1-0 victories than suffer the unpredictable roller coaster ride that comes with watching talented, if fragile footballers wearing . . .

  • There is one advantage to being poorly. I wasn't able to be so busy that I could not watch the game between Chelsea and Liverpool. I enjoyed it.

A high tempo match in which both sides had their periods of domination. Had Diego Costa converted his penalty my bet on Chelsea to win at 2/1 would have paid off. But, no matter. Liverpool earned their point.

A draw was fine for Chelsea. If they beat Arsenal at home this weekend, I think the Premier League trophy may as well be handed to the Blues.

  • It's that week when betting on football can be a precarious business. That is because tomorrow sees the closure of the January transfer market.

As I write, transfers are taking place. So the fortunes of certain clubs could suddenly improve, or get worse. I've been keeping an eye out on the transfers today, just in case any moves alter the chances of clubs playing this midweek.

The big fixture in the Premier League is the duel between Liverpool and Chelsea.

  • With the Premier League looking sewn up for Chelsea, even as early as January, there are clubs in that league who may now take the FA Cup more seriously. Winning a Cup can appease disgruntled fans and owners.

Don't get me wrong, bookies are not yet paying out on Chelsea to win the Premier League. They might do so soon, depending on how the Blues perform against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

If they win the Premier League, then I will consider my autumn double figure price bet on them to do so - when they were struggling . . .

  • The winning bets last weekend included the win for Brighton on Friday night at 21/20 and Anthony Knockaert to score anytime in the game at odds of 11/4.

Other profitable punts came via James Vaughan scoring anytime for Bury (17/11) and wins for Fleetwood Town (7/4), Huddersfield (4/5) and Doncaster Rovers (4/7).

There are not many midweek games, but a few bets to consider AND an ante-post RELEGATION tip from me at odds of 8/1.
