  • You have my Pre-Season football tips. They are in the members enclosure at the website and, if you have not yet received them by Mail Chimp e-mail, you soon will.

As for the matches this weekend, I am not bothering with the Micky Mouse Charity Shield game between Leicester City and Manchester United.

Instead I begin the new season with match tips in the Championship and Leagues 1 & 2. The Premier League begins the weekend after that.

So let me begin the new season with a tip in the very first Championship game of the 2016-17 . . .

  • It's that time of the year again. The domestic football season gets underway in England on Friday evening, in the Championship, and for those of us bold or foolish enough to try and predict the ups and downs of the next ten months, it's time to take out our crystal ball once more.

This time last year, in common with everyone else, I did not predict Leicester City would win the Premier League. Shoot me!

I did, however, tip Aston Villa to be relegated at odds of 3/1, Middlesbrough to be promoted to the Premier . . .

  • So here we are. They think it's all over. It very nearly is.

I've heard or read some people say this Euro 2016 tournament has been "crap." I don't agree. I have seen far worse tournaments.

Perhaps I am looking at it too much from a betting perspective. On that front, I have very much enjoyed it. Especially the latter stages. The first games are always cautious affairs. But I have enjoyed watching the more recent games, regardless of whether or not I had money on the outcome.

Portugal won their semi-final for us at odds . . .

  • Well that went well for us. Wales to beat Belgium at odds of 5/1 was a great winning tip for members. And Paul Pogba at 3/1 was my NAP anytime goalscorer bet for France when they played Iceland. Two tasty returns for me.

While those were the good price winning selections, two safety first bets also paid off.

France simply to win against Iceland paid off at odds of 4/9. And my cautious approach in the Germany v Italy game also proved to be a wise move. Germany simply to qualify at 4/7 was another profitable . . .

  • So it's Quarter-Final time at the European Championships.

England went out of the competition with the worst performance I have ever seen from men wearing the three lions on their shirts. And, believe me, that is saying something.

Usually in any game you can point to a period of time in a match when England have played well, put pressure on their opponents or come close to scoring.

I could not find one redeeming feature about that performance, or the tactics employed by Roy Hodgson. He had no choice but to resign.

    But now that's out of . . .

  • So here we are, at the last 16 stage. It's been an interesting tournament and one that is hotting up. The 3-3 draw between Hungary and Portugal has been the most lively game so far. Hungary have surprised many people and it's great that Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England are through to the last 16.

Portugal not going all out for a win against Hungary, and Iceland scoring an injury time winner in their game, ensured that England will no play the smallest nation at the tournament, Iceland.

    Perhaps this is a chance . . .

  • We're now at the stage where some countries have already qualified. The managers have some big decisions to make. Do they want to top their group? Should they rest their better players for the final match in that group? I will be interested to discover the starting line ups for some of those matches. It could alter how I bet.

Since we last communicated on the football front, England beat Wales with a late winner in a 2-1 victory. I admire how Wales defend and the passion of their supporters. I hope they beat Russia.

    England won because . . .
