  • Jose Mourinho says his life is "a nightmare." Yes, it must be hell living in an expensive hotel in Manchester. Imagine how much better his life could be. He might be living in Aleppo, wondering where the next bomb will be dropped. Whether he'll be gassed or simply blown apart. The poor man!

Mourinho is a manager on the cusp of becoming a spent force. Yesterday's man. And he knows it. He must succeed at Manchester United or the next job is likely to be a much less high profile one. The top two German clubs will not . . .

  • A 50% success in midweek with three winning tips from the six.

There will be some tired legs among the Premier League teams that played in European competition in midweek. It is a fact that teams can struggle in their next league match, especially if they have traveled home from afar.

Outside of the Premier League managerial comings and goings continue. Steve Bruce is getting his feet under the table at troubled Aston Villa, while struggling Rotherham United sacked Alan Stubbs and want the admirable Kenny Jackett to replace him.

  • Some managers are firefighters. Neil Warnock, who said years ago that he was going to retire, has joined Cardiff City. The latest in a long list of football clubs he has managed. Last season he pulled off a minor miracle in keeping Rotherham up. And he has got off to a good start at Cardiff by having them beat Bristol City last Friday night.

One of Warnock's former clubs, Sheffield United, had a bad start to the season but are now looking like genuine promotion candidates in League 1.

While so much of the attention of late has been . . .

  • Four winning tips from 5 selections across Leagues 1 and 2 last weekend. 3 teams to win and both teams to score in the other game. They all paid off.

There is more than one way to deprive bookies of money.

For example, Swansea changed their manager and many members of VG Tips followed me in when betting on Guidolin to be the next manager sacked, when the odds were 6/5. I highlighted that as a decent price for a man struggling to manage in England and with the Swansea Chairman famed for his impatience.

    The next manager to . . .

  • It's International week so we have no games in the Premier League or the Championship to bet on.

There are International games between Thursday and Sunday and you would expect the home UK nations to win all or most of those matches, but at short prices. Yes, you can win playing an accumulator made up of only International games, but all too often one side lets you down.

I am avoiding the International matches this week and concentrating only on a handful of matches on Leagues 1 & 2.

  • Since we last talked football, the shortest serving England manager has left the building. Good riddance.

I bit my lip when Sam Allardyce was appointed to manage the England side. So many supporters seemed keen on the appointment that I kept my opinion to myself. I knew it would end in tears, just not so soon. I dealt with the man in the 90's and my opinion of him has not changed since.

I don't have to be silent now and I will calm down, collect my thoughts and write what I have to say about Sam and . . .

  • Some of you will, like me, recall the days when betting on football was akin to printing money, so predictable were results in those days. It wasn't that long ago.

We had the seasons when to bet on Chelsea to win was to almost guarantee profit and betting on Frank Lampard to score any time in a game for the Blues was a bet that returned money almost every week, and at good odds.

There were other teams across the leagues who you could rely on to win. That's rarely the case in this day and age.

    Look . . .

  • The 19/1 Champions League and domestic action magnificent 7 lives on and carries through to this weekend. Let's hope it pays off just as the 14/1 treble returned for members last weekend.

Accumulators can succeed or fail by the most slender of margins. Real Madrid look set to lose their home Champions League tie against Sporting Lisbon. They trailed 0-1 with a minute of the 90 to go. They ended up winning 2-1.

Ronaldo equalised in the 89th minute and, deep into four minutes of injury time, Morata scored a winner for Real Madrid. So . . .
