  • Chelsea won the Premier League, as predicted here last September. Tottenham ran them close and in many other seasons, Spurs would have won the title. But Antonio Conte made Chelsea hard to beat  from October 1st onwards and players who had downed tools for their previous manager, pulled their fingers out for their current one.

Spurs fans can celebrate finishing higher than local rivals, Arsenal. It is the case that Tottenham have played some attractive football this season. Their problem next season may be having to play their home matches at Wembley. That plan did not work well for Arsenal . . .

  • Almost there. The very end of the domestic football season beckons.

Outside of the Premier League, it's play off time. Bradford and Millwall have already booked their League 2 play off final places at Wembley on May 20th.

Now four clubs in the Championship and League 2 play the first legs of their own play off semi finals. So much at stake, especially for whichever club wins the Championship play off final at Wembley on Monday May 29th.

In the Premier League it surely must be time for Chelsea to be crowned Champions, as I predicted to members of . . .

  • In midweek we saw Cristiano Ronaldo score a hat trick in the home leg of their Champions League semi-final against city neighbours, Atletico. Where would Real Madrid be without Ronaldo? Not in the Champions League final, that's for sure. While Marcelo has also impressed for Real this season, the team is too dependent on Ronaldo. He can be stopped. Has been stopped.

Juventus may well be the side to stop him. Presuming Juventus qualify after winning their first leg at Monaco 0-2, I fancy Juve to stop Ronaldo. After all, former Barcelona defender Dani Alves has come . . .

  • The winning bets last week included a win for Bournemouth at odds of 29/20. Portsmouth to win paid off at odds of 17/10 and Plymouth to win at 3/4 also came good. Now Plymouth must win at Grimsby next Saturday if my pre-season, August 3rd 2016 tip to members for Plymouth to win League 2 - at odds of 14/1 - is to pay off.

Two win/draw no bet tips last weekend also ensured I got my stake back on the games between Fulham and Brentford and the Manchester derby.

  • The winning bets over the past five days were:- Christian Benteke to score anytime for Crystal Palace at Liverpool - a good bet at odds of 3/1.

Aston Villa win at Evens. Newcastle win at odds of 1/2. Chelsea v Spurs both teams to score at 4/5. Sergio Aguero to score anytime for Manchester City at 19/20 and Bournemouth win at 10/11.

More promotion and relegation issues have been settled since last weekend. But there are still several outstanding issues as the season nears its very end in England.

The race for fourth place in the . . .

  • The Champions League in midweek saw my bet on Juventus to win the tournament remain alive after they defended superbly to prevent Barcelona scoring in the second leg. I do hope Juventus win the tournament. Not just from a financial perspective. It would make a pleasant change for it to be won by a professional Italian outfit who can attack and defend in equal measure.

Barcelona are out of the Champions League and this weekend face Real Madrid in La Liga. Barca have to win to have any hope of snatching the La Liga title from their long time rivals . . .

  • Greed is not good! But we can all be guilty of getting greedy some days, can't we?

Congratulations to those members who backed the safer, 5 teams to win 10/1 accumulator option for last weekend. You were wise. I was not. I got greedy. I went for 8 teams to win at 50/1. I should have stuck to my original bet - and many of you did. Everton's win ensured the more sensible among you, were paid out - unlike me.

There are crucial fixtures in the Championship and Leagues 1 & 2 on Bank Holiday Monday. And . . .

  • We are fast approaching the stage of the season when the big games come thick and fast.

Crucial end of season matches in the English leagues, Cup finals and the final stages of the Champions League. For me, this is when the Champions League gets interesting. When it more resembles the much missed European Cup.

Leicester City have done very well to make it this far in the Champions League. They are the best price 40/1 outsiders to win the tournament. No surprise there. For Leicester fans, I expect just getting this far feels like a major victory.

    The . . .

  • Hurrah! The 12/1 accumulator paid out for members of VG Tips. Wins for Leicester, Preston, Brighton, Millwall and Sheffield United.

It is worth reiterating that accumulators are fun bets. Hopeful punts. Accurately predicting what 5, 6 or 7 football teams will do on any given day has never been more challenging. Football results are not as easy to predict as they were 3, 4, 5 or more years ago. Inconsistency is rife in English football.

At this late stage of the season you have a mixture of nervous players - perhaps scared of relegation - and those who are, mentally at . . .

  • The winning weekend tips included:- Brentford at 13/10 and Wycombe at 5/6. The 10/1 acca fell down due to a surprising turn of events in West Yorkshire.

Huddersfield Town have been a revelation this season and will be involved in the Championship play offs. But, last Saturday, they lost their composure at home and were reduced to ten men. We needed them to win but, 6 minutes into injury time, Burton Albion scored the winning goal.

As previously instructed to members, I had placed my bet with a bookie offering your stake back if only one of . . .
