  • I would imagine you are as bored of listening and reading about Jose Mourinho as I am of writing about him.

As I have written elsewhere on the website, I don't think he is a happy man in himself. I believe he fell out of love with football during his time at Real Madrid and the break he had between a second unhappy spell at Chelsea and his move to Manchester did not, as I hoped it would, see him return to action refreshed and more upbeat.

Instead he is more miserable than ever and it's only a . . .

6 winners from 9 races selected for the first two days of the Ebor meeting at York on Wednesday and Thursday. 12/1, 13/2, 3/1, 15/8, 7/4 and 11/10 (and placed profit in a further two races, including at odds of 50/1).

There was also profit on Friday when Pacify was placed at odds of 12/1 and then came along the special stayer of the flat season.

Stradivarius is a one million pound horse having achieved a fourth win of the season with a hard fought triumph at York on Friday.

Sometimes it is all about class. And Sea of Class and Lah Ti Dar both ooze that. Here's hoping they meet in a big race later this year, in the UK or France.

I napped the pair on Thursday and they both won comfortably. Check out the races online if you did not watch them live.

Sea of Class came home as the 7/4 winner. Lah Ti Dar, tipped up to members of VG Tips yesterday when 11/10 was available, was first past the post by miles at SP price of only 4/6.

    Both value winners . . .

  • I would like to welcome new members. The two John's and Michael (who has joined for life!)

Whether you join as a recurring monthly member, for one month only, for one year or, as Michael did, for ever; you are most welcome at the care home for profitable punters. I do my best to look after you.

I only wish they had joined prior to a fantastic first day at the York Ebor race meeting and some tasty returns on the football earlier this week.

Tuesday night went rather well with five winning bets from six suggested tips. Portsmouth . . .

We saw on Wednesday that winning experience on the Knavesmire racecourse at York counts for plenty.

El Astronaute won the first race on the day despite coming out of a seemingly unfavourable stall 18. If a horse likes York, it matters. For some reason even some of the better horses do not like the place. Or at least they don't act their best there.

Prior placed or winning experience at York is no guarantee of further success, but when I look at the form of those that have raced their often, I am struck by how consistent the majority . . .

A dry week is forecast for the beautiful setting for racing that is the Knavesmire at York.

Favourites often let punters down at this meeting, which makes bookies happy. Not all horses like York and if you can find one that has won here in the past, that's always worth noting. You cannot always presume that horses that have won at the likes of Newmarket, Goodwood or Epsom will do well at York.

Local trainers often do well here. The Easterby brothers, Mark Johnston, Richard Fahey and Kevin Ryan. Another factor to take note of.

    Day one of the . . .

  • The winning weekend tips - six from ten offered - were:- Middlesbrough at 9/5, both teams to score Tottenham v Fulham at Evens, Everton at 19/20, Portsmouth 10/11, Leeds 4/9 and Brentford to win at 6/10.

It almost goes without saying that this is very early in the season and the make up of the leagues will look different in May compared to now. But it is encouraging for me that the three teams I predicted would be relegated from the Championship come the end of the season, are the current bottom three. Also a club I . . .

No weather forecaster can get it right all the time. Just as we punters cannot. At the time I send this out on Friday, three of my fancies today have flopped. Surprising. Two are left to race, including this evening.

Technology has vastly improved the accuracy of weather forecasts compared to when I began watching racing decades ago. For racecourses in the UK, the Met Office website is the most trusted. Of course rain can come hours earlier than they predict, or not at all. Some days, even the Met Office, like me so far today, fire blanks.

    Their predictions . . .

Last Friday saw me deliver three winners from four races selected.

Showout at 2/1, Firelight at 9/4 and Beatboxer at Evens all won. I told members the night before racing that Frankie Dettori was travelling all the way up to Haydock to ride Beatboxer, his only ride on that card when he could easily have stayed closer to home in the south and ridden some horses for trainer John Gosden. I suggested members took the hint. And they did. Trainer and jockey combined with that winner. Make a note of Beatboxer. The colt now has three Group 2 . . .
